Happy New Year and Many Blessings!
Isaiah 43:18-19 “Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old.I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” NRSV
The prophet Isaiah is sharing the promise of restoration and protection to Israel. Earlier in the chapter he also states that he has redeemed you. At some point in our conversations we end up talking about the past. You know the good old days, the time when we…
I do admit I enjoy talking about the past especially the accomplishments. How about you?
In our church life do we spend too much time talking about the things of old? Because of that do we prevent new thoughts and ideas from materializing?
2017 like most years have been filled with joy and sadness, success and challenges. I guess that about sums it up. So what do we have to look forward to in the New Year?
Maybe we can name the New Year as the Trying Year? Not in a negative way but in a positive way. My Dad used to say, “Son as long as you are trying you never fail.” Yes there were times when I thought I failed and dad would be there with encouragement. You see, if I cut a piece of wood crooked dad would show me what tool to make it straight or use it for another project.
So, lets look at 2018 as a year of trying. New projects, funraisers, fellowship activities and maybe even some type of trip we can go on. Why you may ask?? Because as a family it would be nice to fellowship on other days beside Sundays, it would be great to work together and have fun.
In the song “God Will Make a Way” offers words of encouragement when we are paralyzed and not moving at all. How about you? Are you blocking God from making a way because of always looking back?
Again many blessings as we journey into a new year.
